Who will be the pork pie champion?
Rugby Primestock Society's 48th Christmas show and sale takes place a fortnight today
BUTCHERS, bakers and farmers will be competing at Rugby Primestock Society’s 48th Christmas show and sale for the chance to win cash prizes.
The pork pie and fruit cake classes are just two of the competitions on offer on Monday 29th November 2021 at Rugby Livestock Market, Stoneleigh Park.
The whole day will see farmers, butchers and home-bakers competing to show the best cattle, sheep, crops, vegetables, cakes, sausages, mince pies and pork pies.
More than £3,000 in prize money will be distributed to the winners.
Heather McCurdie, secretary of the Rugby Primestock Society, said: “We hope to raise a substantial amount for the chairman's charity. This year it is Blood Cancer UK.
“This year we are running the full show as last year we only ran the cattle and sheep classes. This was due to the covid restrictions and not being able to have spectators into the market.”
The pork pie class (class E, held in the Board Room, Jersey Building) will see a first prize of £15 going to the best two commercial pork pies (at 0.454kg, or 1lb, plus or minus 10%) as would be sold in the butcher’s shop.
There will be a charity sale of the produce, including fruit cakes and pork pies, at 1.45pm.
Entries for the livestock classes close on Monday 15th November.
People can enter the produce, home baking and butchers’ classes on the day, for a minimum £1 entry fee, submitted with a completed entry form.
