RUGBY Borough Council planning committee approved an application from Tritax Symmetry to put a 5m-high landscape mound with a 3.5m high acoustic fence on land to the north of the Tritax Warehouse site.

Friendship benches delivered to Cawston school

Three handmade ‘friendship benches’ were delivered to Cawston Grange Primary School this week.
The school council - an elected pupil from each class - voted to get friendship benches as well as ‘playground friend’ tabards to help prevent loneliness at school playtime.

Roadworks
Temporary traffic lights will be back at the Dun Cow crossroads from Friday 28th January so a safety audit of the new smart lights can take place and be adjusted. New lantern heads at the crossroads will also be installed at the same time.

The next stage of Warwickshire County Council’s bus improvement plan is out for consultation. The ‘Enhanced Partnership Plan and Scheme’ sets out the council’s details on how it will improve bus services for the county.

Covid-19 figures for Rugby: cases level
For the week up to 26th January 2022:
1,418 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of 39 people (2.7%) compared with the previous seven days.
6 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. That’s 5 more than the previous week.
86,060 people had received one dose of the vaccination; 80,539 had received two doses; and 63,363 had had a booster or third dose. That’s 81.9%, 76.6% and 60.3% of the total population aged 12+.
The estimated R number for the Midlands as of 21st January 2022 is 0.7-1.1.

In Rugby, the walk-in sites are at Locke House at The Railings, and at Hillmorton’s Ex-Serviceman’s Club on High Street in Hillmorton. In addition to the walk-in clinics, you can book a jab on the NHS website.

Rugby: League win for OL RFC 1st XV
Saturday 22nd January 2022
The 1st XV overcame a stubborn and combative Earlsdon side to claim the win points, the 2nds travelled to Southam and came away with a 32-0 win and the Colts beat Leicester Forest by 19-5. A good day all round. There was a return to first team action for Gusher Hammond, teaming with Ray Smith and, latterly, Martin Nobes to form the oldest front row combination in history.
