Sports reports
Bourton & Frankton Cricket Club
Details from Bourton & Frankton CC and report by Karl Quinney
Saturday 11th June 2022: Barrow CC Friendly XI v Bourton & Frankton CC
Bourton and Frankton 212 for 1
Barrow CC 192 for 8
Bourton and Frankton won by 20 runs
Bourton and Frankton broke new ground at the weekend with a highly
successful weekend to Suffolk capped off by a 20 run victory over hosts
Barrow CC.
With the tour party based in Bury St Edmunds, they made the short trip
on Saturday afternoon to the National Trust estate surrounds of Ickworth
House to renew acquaintances with their hosts; the two sides having met
in Warwickshire last June on Barrow's visit to the area.
After a close fought match last time out, another was in prospect and so
it proved in sunny breezy conditions. Batting first, Bourton got off to
a reasonably paced start with Rich Parsons and Dale Coles watchful early
on before getting into their stride. Coles departed to a well-taken
catch in the deep having made 37 for what proved to be the home side's
only success with the ball. Parsons reached a run-a-ball 50 before
retiring not out, as did George Smith on reaching 53 off 38 balls.
Daniel McManus (33 not out) and Mark Whitehead (19 not out) then guided
the visitors past 200 to reach 212 for 1 off their 35 overs.
In reply, Barrow started in positive fashion as they looked to continue
an unbeaten run which stretched through their 2021 season. A change of
bowling earned Bourton their reward as Jake Quinney (1 for 24) got the
breakthrough before two wickets for Nigel Kidd (2 for 24) including
opener Britten for 38 saw the hosts pegged back. Nevertheless Barrow
skipper Bryant and teammate Podbury took matters on before the former
became one of Whitehead's two wickets departing for a top score of 46.
Podbury then went the same way for 18 for the first of Smith's pair of
late scalps. From there, with the closing overs seeing the run rate
creep up past 10 an over Bourton took the sting of any further late
charge by the hosts and closed the game down, ultimately winning by 20
runs to make up for last year's defeat by a similar margin on home soil.

Willoughby Cricket Club
Northamptonshire Cricket League
Details from Willoughby Cricket Club and reports by Karl Quinney
Saturday 11th June 2022: Rushton CC 1st XI v Willoughby CC Saturday 1st XI (Division 7)
Rushton 86 all out
Willoughby 87 for 2
Willoughby won by 8 wickets
Willoughby made short work of accounting for struggling Rushton with a comfortable eight wicket victory.
Skipper Ben Hollis won the toss and elected to bowl first on a very green wicket which Rushton's batsmen struggled to score runs off. After a run out broke the early resistance, the introduction of Vikas Sangwan and Stuart Bonthuys accounted for the host's middle order with ease. Sangwan returning 3 for 26 and Bonthuys 4 for 10 off his 10 over spell as Rushton were bowled out for only 86 all out.
In reply, Willoughby lost Chait Kurusala and then Ashley Rayner cheaply early on, but with only a below par score to get to a teenage duo of Callum Hanks and Ambrose Deery were given an opportunity to see the visitors home, reaching their target with less than 15 overs used of the 45 available.
Saturday 11th June 2022: Willoughby CC Saturday 2nd XI v Northampton Saints CC 3rd XI (Division 13)
Northampton Saints 3rd 125 for 7
Willoughby 128 for 4
Willoughby won by 6 wickets
There was a welcome return to some kind of form for Willoughby's Seconds
as they equally made their run chase against Northampton Saints 3rds
look equally as straightforward.
The visitors always look a dangerous team with the youthful philosophy
they have in their side and with both skippers keen to bat and the
visitors had no hesitation to pad up. Not dissimilar to events at
Rushton, things got off to a slow start for Saints before their
dangerman Jack Bates (25) who scored 90 against Willoughby's firsts a
few weeks prior was run out. At the 20 over mark Saints were 50 for 1
and after the slow start struggled to up the run rate, Saints mustering
a total of 125 for 7 off 40 overs. The main resistance coming from Wake
(25) and Shardlow (27 not out) as Fergus Deery took 3 for 37 and Matthew
Sutton 2 for 23.
Although 180 plus would be a par score at Willoughby these days Saints
had some firepower in the locker and after an unfortunate LBW to Martyn
Norman, Ian Andrews and Sean Thornton put on 56 for the 2nd wicket with
the latter's big hitting making 32 taking the opener Wake out of the
attack. With Ian Andrews securing a 50, the victory total of 128 for 4
was reached in just 22 overs.
