LAST Sunday approximately 40 villagers witnessed the planting of Dunchurch’s ‘Oak Line’.
The ten new oak trees were planted at the back of the Sports Field. Each tree was sponsored by a village group or organisation.
Organiser Mike Judge, on behalf of the Sports Field and Village Hall said: “We were blessed with good weather....”
The support poles and holes had been prepared on the Saturday, dug by sponsors and volunteers.
Mr Judge said: “The individual plots for planting and the selection of trees were settled by a draw and the whole area was decked with Union flags.
“Once the ceremonial planting had taken place by representatives from each sponsor the half dozen or so children present were invited to remove two flags to reveal a plaque, commissioned from the British Legion, celebrating the Queen’s Green Canopy.”*
