Dunchurch man charged with drug offences

A man from Dunchurch will appear in court today (Thursday 7th April 2022) charged with drug offences.


No changes for Willoughby heading into 2022 cricket season

🔓 7th April 2022

It is a case of as you were and go again for Willoughby as they embark on their 2022 season in the coming weeks.


Extra arm for surgeons at St Cross

🔓 6th April 2022

The Friends of St Cross have donated a new x-ray device costing £50,000 to help surgeons at the Hospital of St Cross during surgery on patients’ hands or feet. The Friends’ Sapphire Anniversary Appeal aims to raise at least £65,000 for the hospital.


Second local sleepout for Hope4

🔓 6th April 2022

Following the recent sleepout by the scouts in aid of Rugby Hope4, a group from Bilton Evangelical Church will be camping out in a makeshift village to raise funds for the same homelessness charity.


Clothing collection for Asylum Seekers

🔓 5th April 2022

People wanting to help asylum seekers in the Rugby area can now do so, by making donations of clothing via Dunchurch Parish Council. The council was approached for help by a company working with the Home Office. In this article, we provide a list of weather-appropriate clothing suitable for children and adults staying locally. Donations can be dropped off at Dunchurch Community Library between 10am and 5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays.


Salon raised funds for community defibrillator

4th April 2022

Staff at Salon 45 on Cymbeline Way in Bilton have been fundraising for a defibrillator on Woodlands Estate. The Salon 45 owners said they needed to raise just in excess of £1,000 and that they now had enough funds for the defibrillator.


Footpath closed today for 6 months

🔓 1st April 2022

A footpath near Thurlaston and Dunchurch will be closed from 1st April 2022 for six months because of works being carried out by Tritax Symmetry. An alternative route will be signposted.


More trees planted in Dunchurch and Bilton

🔓 31st March 2022

Thirty more trees have been planted in Dunchurch as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project. Volunteers from the Friends of Dunchurch Society and members of St Peter’s Church planted 30 saplings in the churchyard on Saturday 26th March 2022. Meanwhile, the Rugby Free Church Homes for the Aged, based at Bilton House on Bawnmore Road, also planted an oak sapling for the Queen’s Green Canopy project.

Easter holiday football camp

Help Soccer Coach will be running their first holiday course from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April on the Astro turf pitches at Rugby School Sports Centre on Horton Crescent in Rugby.

For ages 5 and up. Days run 9am to 3.30pm and cost £15 per child per day, or £50 for all four days. A 20% sibling discount is available.

Covid-19 figures for Rugby: cases falling

For the week up to 4th April 2022:

  • 785 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an decrease of 195 people (-19.9%) compared with the previous seven days.

  • 0 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

  • 86,541 people had received one dose of the vaccination; 82,445 had received two doses; and 65,670 had had a booster or third dose. That’s 82.4%, 78.5% and 62.5% of the total population aged 12+.

  • The estimated R number for the Midlands as of 25th March 2022 is 1.1-1.3.

Book a vaccine online or attend a drop-in clinic

In Rugby, the walk-in site is at Brownsover Community Centre from Thursday to Saturday, 9am - 5.30pm. In addition to the drop-in clinic, you can book a jab on the NHS website.

Although face masks are no longer a legal requirement, Warwickshire County Council is encouraging all residents to continue to wear one in enclosed spaces to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

  • Friday Singers Concert: Saturday 9th April, 2.30pm at St Mark’s Church, Bilton. The Friday Singers are putting on an afternoon concert to raise money for St Mark’s Church.

  • Severn Trent Easter Trail at Draycote: Saturday 9th - Sunday 24th April, 10am - 5pm at Draycote Water. The Easter Bunny has left a trail of eggs at Draycote Water. Find the eggs and answer the questions to receive a prize. No need to pre book. £3 per trail sheet.

  • Random Opera Company production of Der Freischutz: Saturday 9th April, 7pm at Temple Speech Room, Rugby. Book tickets in advance.

  • Cake and Craft: Friday 15th April, 2pm-4pm at Dunchurch Baptist Church.

  • The Great Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday 16th April, 10am - 2pm at Caldecott Park. £3 per child. Hunt for the hidden words around the park to win a chocolate surprise. Organised by Rugby Round Table with all profits donated back into local good causes and charities.

  • Napton Art Group Easter Exhibition: Saturday 16th April, 10am - 5pm at Napton Village Hall. A collection of 200 paintings in all media. Admission £1 with free entry for children. Light refreshments in the pop-up cafe.

  • Rugby Floral Society: Thursday 21st April, 2pm at Overslade Community Centre.

Foodbank

This week, the foodbank urgently needs UHT milk, long-life fruit juice, tinned meat, and quality carrier bags. They are running low on hot chocolate, jam/marmalade, sugar and shower gel.

There are donation locations throughout South Rugby. See the full list of drop-off points.
