"Dunchurch has never looked so colourful"
'Dunchurch in Bloom 2021'. Read on for an interactive map of the displays this year. Can you find all 55?
The Friends of Dunchurch Society, known as ‘FODS’ in the village, organised wheelbarrows and troughs to be planted with colourful floral displays around Dunchurch this summer.
There are more than 55 creations spread around the village.
Village residents and organisations have planted troughs made from recycled pallets, and wheelbarrows, with plants, flowers and even sculptures.
The Scouts, Brownies, Rainbows and the infant and junior schools all made a display for the village.
And village businesses have bought hanging baskets from FODS, planted with summer bedding grown by the Dunchurch Allotment Association.
Sue Protheroe from the Friends of Dunchurch Society said: “Dunchurch has never looked so good or so colourful. Organised by FODS, Dunchurch in Bloom 2021 has been a tremendous success thanks to the support of the community. This has been a real team effort and it has been so lovely to hear the positive comments this initiative has generated.
“Together, our community has worked within the framework of Covid restrictions creating something to be very proud of and something to be enjoyed by everyone who comes to our village. We now look forward to 2022 when Dunchurch will be entering the Britain in Bloom National competition as the representatives of the Heart of England in the large village category.”
We went hunting and created an interactive map of all the ones we could find. Did we miss any? Let us know!
The displays were originally planned to be part of the village’s Britain in Bloom entry, but the competition was cancelled for the second year running.
However, FODS instead entered the village into the Heart of England in Bloom and the Royal Horticultural Society Community Awards. A portfolio and video of the displays will be judged in July, with results announced in September.
