THERE will be a Jubilee beacon-lighting ceremony in Dunchurch on Thursday 2nd June at 9.45pm.

Dunchurch parish councillor Ian Grogan reported at April’s meeting that the beacon, which has been organised by the Friends of Dunchurch Society and sponsored by the parish council, will be lit as part of a 20-minute-long national ceremony.

A pipe and bugler will sound in the celebrations as the beacon is blessed by the vicar of St Peter’s Church, and unveiled by the chair of Dunchurch parish council.

The next mayor of Rugby has also been invited to attend the ceremony. We’re yet to find out who the next mayor might be - it’s usually the deputy mayor, but that position is vacant following the unexpected resignation of deputy mayor and Bilton councillor Chris Cade in March this year.

Events for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee are being put together in the village by FODS, the Women’s Institute and the Dunchurch Festival Group, with support from the parish council.

A beacon will be delivered to the village in the last week of April, when foundations will be laid.

Further village jubilee celebrations include a church service and tea party on Friday 3rd June and a lunchtime picnic on Sunday 5th June on the sports field.
