Advent Calendar: Day 11
When we sent out the call for submissions to the Advent Calendar, one of the people to respond was a volunteer with the Warwickshire Search and Rescue Team.
Warwickshire Search and Rescue Team is an operational Lowland Rescue team, set up to help the police with searches for vulnerable missing persons within Warwickshire, and beyond. The team is on call 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Paul Grosvenor, a volunteer from Hillmorton, said: “We've attended a few missing person searches in the Rugby area over the past couple of years including in Newbold, Paddox, Brownsover and Church Lawford. We've also carried out some training around Dunchurch and Draycote Water including our '5in2' (5 miles in 2 hours) fitness walk carrying full search kit.
“We are a registered charity and receive no funding from the Government. All of our members are unpaid volunteers and we rely completely on donations to keep the team operational, purchase essential team equipment and to be able to provide training for our members.”
During 2020 the team had over 50 call outs and spent almost 2,000 hours searching for missing vulnerable people in Warwickshire and surrounding counties.
“We are currently fundraising for an Incident Control Unit as our current vehicle is at the end of its life. This vehicle is a vital part of every search as it is where the searches are planned and managed.”
